Wind Power - Don't Be Afraid of the Wind! http://www.powernaturally.org/ Many of our counties, towns, and villages are involved in designing laws and regulations that will govern the installation and growth of wind power generation towers and related equipment into the 21 st century. New York State has designated wind power as a clean and desirable source of power. Many of you are scared by these changes in the environment and, to be brutally honest with you, are operating without the necessary information needed to make good decisions. Might I be so bold as to suggest a web site called The Wind Energy Toolkit. This tool kit contains some good, solid information and if your area may possibly be the site of a wind farm this is a terrific resource. There are more links to wind energy resources at the bottom of this article as well - check them out! Top Quality Products - Protect Your Dogs With Invisible Fence ! The best thing I ever did for my dogs was to invest in the Invisible Fence pet containment system. Invisible Fence gives me and my family the piece of mind that my dogs will be safe and sound at all times. Brownie, Midnight, Shadow, and Special are more confident themselves because they always know exactly where they can go and where they shouldn't. Our dogs are a big part of the family. We love them as if they were our own kids. And besides if I'm going to spend over a hundred dollars a month on pet food, I might as well protect my investment and keep them safe! There are several pet containment systems on the market but none even comes close to the quality and reliability of Invisible Fence. If you really love your dog please invest in a safety net to keep him or her safe! I just happen to have a few $100 gift cards for Invisible Fence in the Rochester New York area. Simply send me an e-mail with your name, address, and phone numbers to Jim@JimSalmon.com and I will help you begin the process of long term happiness and safety for your dog! Hardware (Store) Safety I don't want you to think I am bashing the “Big Box” home centers because I am not. I love them! All of them.I just want to bring to your attention a very serious topic and plant another little seed in your head for consideration. Over the last ten years an alarming amount of people have been killed while shopping at a “Big Box” home center. There are many really heavy things in there. If you are hit by a door or a pallet of stuff you most likely will not survive. I worked in that environment for years before becoming a home inspector. I can tell you it is a very dangerous place and should be treated with respect at all times. I would not ever bring my small children into these stores. I also am very observant and careful when choosing which aisles to walk down. If an employee is operating a forklift or other equipment I stay away from that area completely, especially in the adjoining aisles to where the folk lift is being used. The object is to shop and go home alive!
Things That Go Bump In The Night! Did you ever wonder why you never sleep as good while you are traveling, whether it's staying at a relatives house or some flea infested hotel? You always blamed it on the mattress right? Well, the real reason is the different sounds you hear which are different than what you are used to at home. It's all about the sound. Your home has a special noise and vibration that your body is used to, and when you change the sounds around you your mind picks up on that and becomes nervous and comfortable. And guess what? You don't sleep as well. Here are a few of the sounds you can expect at your home. * Well pumps; those of you on wells hear the pump, the clicking sound of the switches, and the water running through the pipes along with the up's and down's of the water pressure when you realize your pump tank has a hole in the bladder. * Water heaters; the simmering sound and a grumbling as they acquire more mineral deposit build-up. Buy a new one. * Hot tub; the pump motors turning on and running the filter. * The pool pump; during the summer., the sounds of suction. * A Boiler; pipes crackling, running water through the pipes, the boiler igniting. * High efficiency furnaces and water heaters; the blowing sound as they exhaust outside. * The washer and dryer; the wash and dry operation, the alarm sound when clothes are dry, the flapping dryer vent outside in the wind. * The hair dryer; you can always hear the hair dryer through the bathroom door. * The alarm clock; I threw mine against the wall. * The ticking of the wall clock; it is really noticeable if the clock stops. * The bathroom fan; run these for 15 minutes after each shower. * The garbage disposal; grinding away at that bottle cap you left in it. * The refrigerator and freezer; the compressors turn on and off many times a day. * The ice maker in your refrigerator; as the ice cubes are dumped into the ice bucket. * The dishwasher; the sound tells you when you need a new one. * The self igniting of your gas stove; monitor this to keep the possibility of an explosion to a minimum. * The telephone and answering machine; almost obsolete. * The sump pump; on and off and on and off. You notice your sump pump more when it doesn't run because you instantly realize there may be 6” of water in your basement. * The smoke alarm; That annoying beep when the battery has not been changed. Or when you finally realize you can't cook and it is obvious that dinner is burnt. * Ceiling fans; the whoosh of the blades as they run, the poorly balanced blades clicking at every turn and the hum of the motor. * The TV, radio, or Computer; the fan in the computer is really annoying. * The garage door opener; when your husband comes home at 2:00 in the morning. * Your standby generator; the weekly self diagnostic and testing. * The dehumidifier; you hear it running in the basement and you know it's costing you $10 a month to operate. * The hum of an exterior light fixture; a very low buzz. * The squeaking floors and doors; This is the number one request for help. Get over it, squeaks add character to your house! * Traffic outside your home; take the traffic noise away and you have a real, noticeable difference. * And finally, the sounds your pets make; the dog snoring, the cat tearing up the sofa, or the hamster on his wheel. I'm sure there are many more noises at your house that you are so used to that you don't even know you hear them, like the kids arguing! There are definitely some sounds you do not want to hear like the crackling of fire, the sound of running water, and the awful sound of a car running into your home.
