Batavia Downs is an entertainment venue like no other! They have all kinds of fun events going on all the time! Gentlemen, keep this in your head (and your phone), February 14th is Valentine's Day, start thinking NOW what you're going to do to make it special for your lady. You can always take the safe way and make dinner reservations - at Her favorite place (not your local sports bar). Conveniently the 14th is a Friday, so maybe dinner, hotel reservations, possibly out of town to make it a weekend getaway. The best thing is for you to arrange for the kids &/or pets to be taken care of for the weekend. That means so much more than you may think. Obviously though, with a responsible person you know your wife approves of. Usually it's the wife that has to make all the plans and arrangements, you will be a hero if you seriously took care of it! Or,,you don't need to go that far, sometimes simple little gestures of love mean a lot too, especially if money is an issue. Take her for a nice walk in a beautiful park (dress warm!) or a random drive through the country and stop at a diner or a little shop in a small town. Just spending time to talk is important and to get out of the normal routine. The usual, jewelry, candy does work but keep in mind her likes, not yours. Not that you aren't important but really, what guy cares about Valentine's day?

For being the shortest month it seems like February has more going on! President's day, or week, kids have off school, of course, as we said, Valentine's Day, honors the Boy Scouts of America, American Heart month, leap year, Super Bowl, let's not forget Ground Hog's day either! Some silly traditions, some important to know!

There are lots more but for now we will move on!

We can start thinking about spring, now is a good time to line up companies and get on their schedule early. One company is Weed Man. Did you know that animal rescues and shelters are completely full?

So many sad and unnecessary reasons. People get a dog or cat when they're cute little puppies and kittens, then they start to get bigger, maybe more work or time consuming - when actually they are craving attention, love and care. Some people got pets during the pandemic for companionship while they were working from home and for whatever reason (won't get into it, nope). Now they drop the pets off at the shelters, or worse just along a road somewhere. That is not the answer, these poor creatures relied on someone taking care of them, food, water, a home, then they find themselves dumped in the middle of nowhere. People think pets automatically survive out in nature. No, they don't. They can get hit by cars, attacked by other animals, can't find food or water, or warmth, beaten or tortured by kids or adults. If they're 'lucky' a good samaritan will pick them up, bring them in, try to find their owner, report to animal control, usually the pet ends up in a shelter, frightened and not knowing what happened with the life they had.

Rescues and animal shelters are mostly all volunteers, who are now stretched emotionally and physically trying to help these neglected animals. Please find it in your heart to donate to these non-profits and adopt a pet. Many of these places are on facebook and post the pictures and stories of these pets needing permanent, loving homes. Please help. (Do some research before just donating to any, some aren't as reputable as you'd think they are, unfortunately.)

Ginger and Wishbone were rescues, that ended up very well-loved and cared for, even though Wishbone looks guilty about something!

Oh uh, your windshield just got a big crack in it! If it's safe to drive head on over to Ray Sands Glass for replacement. Or give them a call 585-889-2876, and they can come to you! February 1st is next Pittsford Rotary Food Drive

Rotary Club’s Next Drive-thru Food Drive is Feb. 1

The Rotary Club of Pittsford’s next drive-thru food drive is scheduled Saturday (Feb. 1) from 9 am to noon at the Pittsford Sutherland High School bus loop. In addition to the Pittsford Food Cupboard, donations also will support Cameron Community Ministries Food Pantry and the Nazareth University Oak Tree Food Pantry. Rotarians and Interact Club members will be collecting at the drive rain or shine.

The Pittsford Food Cupboard plays a crucial role in addressing food insecurity within our community. Donations help ensure that local families have access to essential food items and will promote well-being and stability. See the cupboard’s list of current needs.

Cameron Community Ministries is an urban outreach center located in Rochester dedicated to serving those in need in the community and surrounding areas with food, clothing and other necessities.

The Oak Tree Pantry serves those with food insecurity in the Nazareth community. The pantry has an ongoing need for granola bars, pasta, peanut butter, soap and other hygiene products.

The drive also will collect donations of gently used, current magazines for distribution to area human service organizations.
